Discovering the Past: History Trip to France
.jpg)
A journey of learning, reflection and discovery as learners explored key historical sites and experienced life in France.
Our History learners recently took part in an educational visit to France, where they explored some of the most significant First World War battlefields and memorials on the Somme. The trip brought their classroom learning to life, giving learners the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the events and lasting impact of the Great War.
During the visit, learners explored key historical sites including Lochnagar Crater, Devonshire Cemetery and Mansel Copse, Newfoundland Memorial Park, the Deville Wood Museum, the Thiepval Memorial and Visitor Centre, and the Ulster Tower Memorial. Visiting these sites in person helped learners gain a greater appreciation of the sacrifices made during the war and the importance of remembrance.
The trip also gave learners the chance to experience life beyond the classroom. For many, it was their first time visiting another country, experiencing a different culture, travelling by coach through France and spending time at Fort-Mahon-Plage. These experiences helped build confidence, independence and lasting memories while allowing learners to enjoy new surroundings with their peers.
Overall, the visit was both educational and enriching, combining valuable historical learning with cultural experiences that many of our learners will remember for years to come.
