Most Able

Harrow High School identifies, monitors and supports the attainment of two groups of learners:

  • those with High Prior Attainment (HPA), and
  • those who have made progress in line with HPA learners, who are regarded as Potential High Attainment (PHA).

High Prior Attainment (HPA)HPA learners have a KS2 average grade level of 5.33 or above. In Year 7, learners with a score of 110 in KS2 Maths and a score of 110 in English are classed as HPA learners.

Potential High Attainment (PHA): PHA learners are those with low or no KS2 data, who have shown (through end of year tests, class tests, etc.) progress in line with HPA learners and are therefore capable of high attainment

A number of enrichment activities are organised specifically for HPA learners and departments also offer their own enrichment activities.

Harrow High School BRILLIANT CLUB

This programme provides learners with the opportunity to work with experienced teachers and to experience university-style learning. It helps them to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to secure a place at a highly selective university. We offer this opportunity to stretch and challenge our most able learners, ensuring they develop the skills needed to excel in their next phase of education.

Learners undertake independent research projects in subjects such as English and Economics, working with subject specific teachers, to explore complex and thought-provoking topics. For example, in English, learners might investigate the use of rhetoric and language in political speeches or analyse how identity is shaped through literature across different historical periods. In Economics, learners explore issues such as market behaviour, global inequality, and the impact of economic policy on everyday life. These projects mirror the depth and rigour of undergraduate study, encouraging learners to think critically, debate ideas, and present well-evidenced arguments in a university-style format.

INSPIRE PROGRAMME

Our Inspire Programme, which is organised and coordinated with Oxford University. Offers a range of in-depth workshops across a variety of academic and creative subjects designed to stretch and challenge learners beyond the classroom curriculum. Through specialist-led sessions, learners explore advanced concepts, critical thinking skills, and real-world applications of their studies. This programme encourages intellectual curiosity and independent learning, equipping learners with the confidence and ambition to achieve at the highest level.

The Premier League Programme

Designed exclusively for our brightest Year 11 learners, the Premier League Programme is built to challenge, inspire, and elevate academic ambition. We provide high-impact assemblies focused on cutting-edge STEM subjects, alongside invaluable networking opportunities with successful alumni. By connecting our current students with past graduates, we provide firsthand insights into top-tier Sixth Form provisions and university outcomes, giving our most able students the competitive edge they need for the future.
