HOT WEATHER PRECAUTIONS

In response to the extreme hot weather warning for the beginning of next week, we are making some changes to ensure excellent safety and care for our learners; in particular school will be dismissed at 1:05pm on Monday and Tuesday.

Uniform

Learners should wear Harrow High PE kit for Monday and Tuesday.  We recommend the white Harrow High polo shirt and the Harrow High PE shorts as the best combination. Please do not send learners into school wearing non-uniform items on Monday and Tuesday as they will be sent back to correct this.  Wednesday 20th is a non-uniform day and learners will be able to wear their own clothes on this day.

Being outside for extended periods of time

With cooler temperatures in the morning the start of the day will be as normal with learners expected on site at 8:45 so they are ready in the line-ups for an 8:50 start to the school day.

PE lessons will take place inside the Sports Hall out of the sun.

The first break will operate as normal but if the temperature is too high learners will be based inside the Canteen, School Hall and Sports Hall out of the sun.

Water and Sunscreen

Learners must bring their own bottles of water to keep themselves hydrated.  We have water fountains that they can refill them from.  We will also have a supply of water bottles as a backup.

Learners are encouraged to use sunscreen, no less than SPF15, on parts of their body that will be exposed to the sun - specifically arms, legs, face and back of their necks.

School finishing time

At a meeting on Wednesday, Head Teachers of a group of Harrow Secondary Schools decided to finish earlier on Monday and Tuesday due to the forecast of extreme temperatures. The hottest temperatures were expected around the normal school finishing times.

As a result learners will be dismissed from school at 1.05pm at the end of period 4. Learners that wish to get school lunches or Free School Meals will be able to do so at this time before leaving.

If any parents would like us to supervise their children until the normal end of the school day please let us know and we will provide a quiet study space in the library.
